The first jobs, and a bigger horizon

Adapted from an oral-history interview with Terry Bean by Matt Steele. Prepared for Terry’s review and expansion.

Terry as a young baseball player
“I’ve always worked a lot.”
— Terry Bean, oral history

Terry remembers finding work early: picking beans and berries, raking filberts, and beginning to caddie at about eleven. Summer work and weekends at Oswego Lake Country Club were part of his childhood.

He recalls wondering whether he might someday belong to a country club himself. At the time, that possibility seemed distant. His account captures both the work he was doing and the world he was beginning to imagine.

This is a place to expand the business story in Terry’s own words: the first lessons in working with people, the jobs that followed, and the eventual move into real estate.
